Freedom through yoga
What lead me to yoga?
Four things were prevalent in my life; anxiety, anorexia, obsession, and a feeling of emptiness. I was suffering in a world not knowing who I was or what value I could bring aside from being ‘perfect’.
Yoga, specifically meditation, was the first opportunity I had to see reality and realise I could let go of the tight grip I had over every aspect of my life.
My exploration of yoga and all of its teachings has now been part of my life for over 16 years. Through the practice of yoga and its teachings I have found solace, certainty, confidence, faith and true joy.
Why do I maintain my practice?
My practice provides me with a clarity of mind and allows space in which I can make firm decisions. My practice builds physical strength, flexibility, understanding, love and respect for my body. It provides me with a connection, faith and joy which extends into my relationships. And most importantly it keeps me sane, clear from the anxiety and negative traits of the past. It is an experience that continually provides.
Why teach?
I completed my first accredited teacher training in Singapore and it was during this time my teacher, Master Paalu, sat down with me for tea and shared his vision. To my surprise his vision that day was about my life, not his. He was adamant that I would share yoga, that I would go on to find my own way of expression to inspire others and to live with yoga by my side always. Since this day I haven’t once questioned my role to teach. I know I entered this world to be an educator and yoga is the voice that is innately and consistently within me to share.
